Essential Oil Lip Balm Recipes

I love making lip balms with Young Living Essential Oils.  You can take one recipe and make several different flavors.  Below is the recipe I use when I make my “Orange Creamsicle” lip balms.  Following the recipe, you will find some different combinations of essential oils you can use to make the different ones.  If not making the “Orange Creamsicle” lip balms, leave off the vanilla extract.

You will need 8 to 10 round lip balm containers (or lib balm tins)
Glass measuring cup
Double Boiler

Ingredients:
½ ounce beeswax pellets
½ ounce coconut oil
¼ ounce shea butter
¼ ounce cocoa butter
5 drops Vitamin E Oil
30 drops Orange essential oil
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract (I only use this for the Orange Creamsicle recipe)

Instructions:
Measure all your ingredients (except for essential oils) into a double boiler or metal bowl over a medium-sized pot with boiling water. Some people use a large glass measuring cup and put it in the microwave to slowly melt the ingredients.  Mix gently with a metal spoon as the ingredients begin to melt.  When the ingredients are fully melted, remove from the heat and add in essential oils and stir quickly.  Be careful not to splash on your skin since the ingredients will be very hot.

Before it begins to harden, you need to quickly pour mixture into empty lip balm containers or lip balm tins. If you spill some, you can wait until it begins to harden on the surface it spilled on, scrape it off, and re-add it back into the mixture to soften and pour again.

The lip balms will cool within 15-20 minutes (depending on the size of the container). When completely solidified and cooled you can then move them.

WARNING:  Since orange essential oil is part of the “citrus” family, please be careful wearing this lip gloss outdoors during sunny days.  Citrus oils can burn the skin under direct sunlight!
