Juniper (Juniperus osteosperma and J. scopulorum)essential oil is one of Young Living‘s single oil blends. It has an earthly, woodsy aroma of Juniper creating a peaceful atmosphere when diffused. It’s botanical family is Cupressaceae and the plant’s origin is Utah. The extraction method used for juniper essential oil is it is steam distilled from stems/leaves/flowers (aerial parts). It’s ORAC value is 250 µTE/100g.
“Bundles of juniper berries were hung over doorways to ward off witches during medieval times. Juniper has been used for centuries as a diuretic. Until recently, French hospital wards burned sprigs of Juniper and rosemary to protect from infection.” (Young, 118)
Juniper’s medical properties are: “Digestive cleanser/stimulant, purifying, detoxifying, increases circulation through the kidneys and promotes excretion of toxins, promotes nerve regeneration.” (Young, 118).
Juniper Essential Oil uses are:
- skin conditions (acne, eczema)
- liver problems
- urinary/bladder infections
- fluid retention
It can be diffused, directly inhaled, taken as a dietary supplement, or applied topically.
